description

Sangaste Castle, built in 1887, is an impressive edifice in Southern Estonia that was fashioned after the famous Windsor Castle in England. Built according to the vision of bright and infinitely curious Count Berg, the Castle and its surroundings saw many upgrades and experiments in the fashion of latest scientific and technological knowledge of 19th century. Count Berg was an outstanding man and ahead of his time in many ways – the exhibition “The Rye Count and Wonders of the World” located in the circular stable next to Sangaste Castle pays honour to its former master and his love of innovation.

The exhibition houses over 50 interactive exhibits and takes the visitors back in time to the wonderful and awe-inspiring era of industrial and scientific revolution. Visitors get to drive, exercise, and explore like true 19th century natives. While 19th century brought incredible new technologies and discoveries, some of what was hoped and imagined we now know is impossible – but shows us how playful and unexpected human imagination can be. The exhibition aims to convey this joy to all its visitors no matter the age.

Scenography stood at the centre of creating Sangaste Stable exhibition. 19th century looking exhibits with stylistic elements and engravings on the wall displaying 19th century architecture, technology, culture, fashion and much more form a strong visual atmosphere. A strong museum graphic identity directs the mood and enlivens the exhibition with numerous illustrations.
