description
Proto Invention Factory is the very first educational virtual reality centre in the world. It is a novel concept that combines history, science, and the latest VR technology available with fantasy and fiction. The aim of Proto is to create memorable experiences, encourage imagination and inspire the future generation of scientists, inventors, and entrepreneurs to be enthusiastic about science and innovation. Proto is the playground of the future Steve Jobs, Elon Musk and Bill Gates.
Our role in developing and completing Proto encompassed all aspects of the project. The initial idea to create such a visitor centre came from us, and we led the design and realisation of the project as head contractor. We worked simultaneously on multiple levels as we developed the storyline and exhibition design in joint with scenography and content of individual interactive exhibits and solutions.
Invaluable experience came from planning, prototyping, and producing interactive and VR exhibits. VR experiences in Proto are all based on technical accomplishments and fantastic inventions of the past, some of which can only be brough to life with the aid of virtual reality as they are not in compliance with the laws of nature. Proto is a complete fictional world in which all VR experiences follow the same visual style, while each game is an individual experience.
Proto VR experiences combine mechanical solutions, physical movement, and visuals. We developed many exhibits where the visitor has to do something physical, pull a lever or push the pedals, and the scene in the VR glasses adjusts accordingly. Developing such VR experiences from zero, we worked closely with our partner Enversed in Holland on the VR games while planning and manufacturing the physical exhibits in Tallinn, Estonia. Each VR exhibit went through a period of prototyping and extensive testing to result in the best possible user experience.
The interactive and VR experiences in Proto are both for single and multiple players. As a team effort, visitors can assemble products in a scenic factory, protect a train from a heist or fly with wings and a hot-air balloon, take a trip below the surface of the Earth and explore place where no human has yet set their foot to. Numerous hands-on exhibits teach visitors about science while making it fun – such as a piano that works with Tesla coil or air cannons that work on the Bernoulli’s principle. Videos of Proto’s head scientist Professor E are found all around the exhibition to help explain different scientific phenomena with physical demonstrations, accessible for all age groups.
What we take most pride in is how the individually crafted exhibits and experiences come together as a whole. The award-winning scenography and environment design of Proto transports the visitor into a world of technology, science, and everything that the fantastical minds of past scientists where able to come up with. From intricate details, quirky and original exhibits to the atmosphere of the exhibition hall, Proto is unmistakably steampunk. Proto Invention Factory is like a peek into the mind of a spirited inventor – vivid, fantastical, and original.
Feedback
MOTOR created the exposition which emphasizes the original idea of the old factory building and combined it with modern technology. The exposition is educative and entertaining at the same time which makes it perfect for both children and adults. Flexibility, good engineering and creative solutions make MOTOR a perfect partner!
