description
The Estonian Health Care Museum is one of a kind museum in the region with a clear mission – to offer visitors fascinating discoveries and new information about human anatomy, the history of medicine and various aspects of health care through exhibitions. The museum conducts interactive lessons and variety of other activities, recognising their role in both educating the general public as well as school groups that regularly take part of museum’s activities.
Health and sex education are an important part of schooling, and The Estonian Health Care Museum has been carrying out programmes to provide it to the appropriate age groups for a long time. However, without good visual aids the functioning of human body can remain abstract. The challenge for creating the exhibition was to discover how to make the topic of health fascinating for school children, and educate them while offering plenty of entertainment.

The museum is located in two fully renovated medieval buildings in Tallinn Old Town. We worked on the permanent exhibition “A Heart to Heart About Your Body”. The exhibition has an important part to carry in raising awareness about health topics and offering a new innovative take on educational activities. The exhibition is contemporary and content-rich, with a focus on interactive solutions and a youthful approach, with the aim of appealing to different target groups.
We took the audio-visual materials and multimedia programmes from concept to development and production. As well worked on the graphic design of the exhibition.

Our work includes numerous interactive exhibits. In the Game of Vanity, with which visitors can try on different hairstyles, capture images, and send it to themselves and friends. Blood Aquarium installation helps visitors understand how blood works – a monitor displaying a video of blood flow shows elaborate enlarged models of blood components and allows the visitor to explore what goes on inside blood vessels. The Eye Room introduces the eye, the centre of our visual understanding of the world. The walls of the room are covered with mirrors causing reflections and focal play, and the displays explain how does the sense of sight work in humans.
